Inspired by the writings of Carlos Castaneda, Christopher Palbicki views the making of art as an ongoing visual archive paralleling his inner psyche. . . a way of not only seeing beyond ordinary perception, but as a playful reminder to remain open to the limitless spectacle of ‘mysteries’ innately woven into the tapestry of life.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Christopher received a BA in History from UCLA in 1997, and an MFA in 2005 from Emerson College in Visual/Media Arts.
Christopher currently lives and works in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In his art, as in life, Christopher Palbicki is fascinated by the murky intersections that divide the uncanny from the commonplace. Operating from a conceptual, allegorical focus, his artwork depicts an esoteric mythology experienced through the eyes of roving, inquisitive beings unexpectedly caught up in an array of bewildering situations. These puzzling scenes call into question various aspects of human culture, spiritual identity, existentialist philosophy, and the nature of ‘perceived’ reality. Palbicki’s art presents discordant, often menacing, and sometimes mischievous frontiers where the boundary separating the potential to consciously awaken - or remain blissfully asleep - is defined by the observers’ degree of willingness to face these anomalous episodes and the meditative questions they imply.
